The Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi launches an initiative "Ocean year" Environment

Abu Dhabi, February 4 / WAM / The Sorbonne University, Abu Dhabi, launched the Ocean General initiative 2025, coinciding with the state’s celebration of the twenty -eighth national day and embodying its commitment to support the efforts to preserve marine life and enhance the level of innovation and awareness in this field.
The initiative is consistent with the aspirations of the third session of the United Nations Oceanic Conference, which will be held in the city of Nice, France between 9 and 13 June 2025, and the university organized this occasion an exclusive presentation of the award -winning documentary film “ωcéans” in the German Tion Park on the campus, to remind the vital role of the ocean On the planet, which is often referred to as “the lung of the planet”.
The Sorbon University Abu Dhabi is working closely with a group of concerned authorities from the public and private sectors, including the Environment Authority – Abu Dhabi, to address local research developments and contribute to developing ocean sciences in the region.
In December 2024, the first research mission to the Ocean Institute in Abu Dhabi was launched, and the task focused on the application of environmental DNA technologies (EDNA) and advanced audio techniques to study maritime biological diversity in the UAE.
A few days ago, the first research missions to study the mangroves trees, with the aim of assessing the environmental systems of the mangroves, and these long -term research projects contribute to providing decisive visions on the unique biological diversity in the country.
Professor Natalie Marceal Braz, Director of the Sorbon University Abu Dhabi, said that the initiative reflects our commitment to employing scientific research to protect maritime systems, and the opening of the Ocean Institute recently constitutes a pivotal step in promoting the understanding of the marine environmental system of the UAE and the development of a pioneering center for research and teaching in sea science.
For his part, Admiral Christophe Brazk, director of the Ocean Institute of the University of Sorbonne Paris, said that what we are witnessing at the Sorbonne University is a unique model of cooperation, which brings together the most prominent researchers to unify their experiences, push the limits of scientific research and achieve leading discoveries.
The Ocean Institute at the Sorbonne University of Abu Dhabi is a multidisciplinary scientific research center, focusing on molecular biology, biochemistry, marine acoustics, and artificial intelligence techniques in ocean sciences.
The institute works closely with the University of AI Center at the University (SCAI), as it is characterized by its unique approach that combines ocean sciences and social sciences, with a special focus on environmental and maritime law.
As part of the Ocean General Initiative, the Sorbonne University of Abu Dhabi offers a set of cultural events and scientific conferences throughout the current year.
