A century of cognitive giving … Sharjah libraries contain more than 790 thousand sources and 15 million electronic suppliers

Sharjah, February 4/ WAM/ The “Sharjah Public Libraries”, which celebrates this year, presents its centenary of cognitive and research institutions in the region and the world, a model to be followed in the world of libraries and management of expansion of knowledge sources.

Today, libraries have a unique legacy embodied in more than 791,328 diversified cognitive sources that include books, rare manuscripts, audio and visual materials, tapes, videos and Braille books, which makes them one of the most prominent cultural centers in the region.

In the era of digital transformation, Sharjah libraries became a comprehensive platform for electronic sources, allowing its visitors to reach more than 15 million electronic resources that include electronic and voice books, articles, magazines, university theses and maps in more than 10 languages ​​besides that reflects the presence of materials in 40 foreign languages ​​in addition to English And Arabic is the commitment of libraries to serve a diverse community in the Emirates.

The Sharjah Public Library attaches great attention to rare manuscripts and books, and for this, a section of 3,102 of which is devoted to 912 of the oldest books and manuscripts written in five languages: Arabic, English, French, Persian and German.

Among the most prominent of these holdings is a copy of the Noble Qur’an attributed to Caliph Othman bin Affan, may God be pleased with him, which matches the preserved version in the “Tib Qabi Saray” museum in Türkiye.

The library launched an integrated database that includes manuscripts, books, documents and rare historical maps, allowing researchers to reach these cognitive treasures from anywhere and every time.

The passage of a hundred years since the establishment of Sharjah’s public libraries is a historical turn that confirms the emirate’s commitment to developing its cultural and cognitive services for all. In this context, a hall dedicated to the blind equipped with Braille books, electronic books and auxiliary devices was created, which represents a qualitative shift in the service of this category and provides them with equal opportunities for learning and reading.

The Sharjah Digital Libraries and the electronic loan system were also developed, ensuring the preservation of rare books and audiovisual materials and providing them for future generations.

Sharjah libraries keep pace with the rapid technological development by facilitating electronic loan, reading and electronic broadcasting of audiovisual and visual content, which allows the public to reach resources from anywhere and at any time.

In addition, all services have been converted into electronic, including registration, payment, metaphor, reservation, renewal and return of books, which provides a smooth and effective user experience in addition to providing services around the clock such as the book return service through the car and smart cabinets to met to meet the various user needs.
