New York, 3 May / WAM / The Interfaith Alliance for the Security of Communities organized a roundtable meeting for the Charter of Religions and Artificial Intelligence, in New York City, the United States of America, which is the first of its kind in the world, with the aim of establishing a unified ethical framework for regulating the uses of artificial intelligence worldwide, inspired by the experience of the United Arab Emirates in achieving a balance between technological development and preserving authentic societal values.

This global event is the first in a series of international sessions that will be held in a number of countries, with the participation of more than (15) different religious communities, along with major technology companies and developers of artificial intelligence technologies.

These dialogues will continue in a number of cities on various continents of the world, including Paris, Nairobi, Shanghai, Singapore, Bangalore, and the Vatican, and will be concluded with an international summit in Abu Dhabi, during which the “Moral Compass for Artificial Intelligence” will be launched as a unified global framework.

The roundtable witnessed high-level participation from senior officials, leading organizations in the field of artificial intelligence and technology, major religious institutions, and civil society organizations, with the aim of agreeing on common ethical foundations governing the development and use of artificial intelligence technologies, in a way that enhances the protection of societies.

The meeting’s agenda focused on the ethical challenges arising from the acceleration of artificial intelligence technologies, including issues of digital disinformation, ensuring the responsible use of modern technologies, and witnessed discussions on formulating practical recommendations that contribute to the development of the “pioneering project between religion and artificial intelligence” as a joint global umbrella.

This charter is based on strategic objectives that seek to make a positive impact, by enhancing cooperation between moral values and technological progress, in a way that enhances the security and stability of societies globally.

The “Charter of Religions and Artificial Intelligence” focuses on developing a joint vision that brings together, for the first time, religious leaders, pioneers of artificial intelligence, decision-makers, and international experts, to achieve a balance between technological development and moral responsibility, and works to develop a moral compass that keeps pace with accelerating challenges, and regulates the uses of artificial intelligence.

The Charter stresses the importance of expanding religious dialogue to include contemporary issues that affect the lives of individuals, such as the economy, technology, and society, and how to transform them into practical commitments and practices that have a positive impact on human life.
