A young Palestinian man was killed by Israeli army gunfire in the West Bank

The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on Sunday that a young man was killed by Israeli army gunfire in the city of Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank, while the Israeli army said that its forces responded to stones being thrown at them with live bullets.

The ministry said in a brief statement, “The young man Nayef Firas Ziad Samaro (26 years old) was killed and 4 others were injured by live bullets during the occupation forces’ storming of the city of Nablus.”

The Palestinian Red Crescent stated that its crews dealt with 45 injuries, including five injuries from live bullets and 40 injuries from gas inhalation, and ten injured people were transferred to city hospitals.

For its part, the Israeli army said, “During operations carried out by army soldiers in the Nablus area, a violent confrontation broke out, during which a number of Palestinians threw stones at the soldiers, posing a threat to them.”

He added, “The soldiers responded by using riot dispersal means, then by firing at them in order to remove the threat and disperse the gathering. Several injuries were observed.”

According to eyewitnesses, the Israeli army carried out a raid on several neighborhoods in the center of Nablus, including shops, and confrontations broke out during which the army fired live bullets and gas bombs.

For his part, the director of Rafidia Governmental Hospital, Fouad Nafaa, told AFP that Samaro arrived at the hospital “in serious condition, and the doctors’ attempts to save his life failed.”

The hospital director confirmed the arrival of “six injured people, one of whom was a young man who was seriously injured in the chest, and his condition is now stable.”
