A United Airlines plane collides with a lamppost and a truck in New Jersey

A United Airlines plane with 231 passengers on board escaped disaster on Sunday, after one of its wheels collided with a light pole and a truck while flying over a highway before landing at an airport in New Jersey.

Federal Aviation Administration officials confirmed that the Boeing 767 plane coming from Italy landed safely at Newark Liberty International Airport, indicating that an investigation has been opened into the accident.

A preliminary investigation by New Jersey State Police stated that “as a United Airlines plane was approaching the runway, one of its tires and the bottom of the plane collided with a pole and a transport truck.”

He added that “the column also fell on a jeep” that was also crossing the highway.

There were no reports of injuries on board, and the truck driver was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries, according to a statement from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

United Airlines Flight 169 was carrying 221 passengers and 10 crew members when the accident occurred on a highway near the runways of Liberty Airport around 2 p.m. local time on Sunday.

The H&S Bakery truck was not damaged, but the plane’s wheel collided with the driver’s window, according to Chuck Paterakis, vice president of the company, who added that the driver suffered minor injuries.

United Airlines issued a statement saying that it intends to conduct a thorough aviation safety investigation into the incident, and its crew has been suspended as part of this investigation.
