The countdown to the start of the tournament begins "Abu Dhabi Grand Slam of Jiu-Jitsu"

ABU DHABI, 5 MAY / WAM / The Abu Dhabi Professional Jiu-Jitsu Association announced the start of the countdown to the start of the “Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu Championship,” at the Mubadala Arena in the capital, Abu Dhabi, during the period from May 15 to 17, sponsored by “Edge Group,” amid expectations of wide participation from elite male and female players from various countries of the world.
The tournament comes within the context of an integrated system through which the UAE has consolidated its position as a global capital for Jiu-Jitsu, thanks to the vision and support of the wise leadership, and continuous cooperation and coordination between the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Professionals Association, which has contributed to building a pioneering sports model based on spreading the game and expanding its base, discovering talent, creating champions, and organizing world championships according to the highest professional standards.
Today, the Association announced the details of the tournament’s schedule, as the first day was allocated to the Masters 1, 2, 3, and 4 competitions for those born in 1996, 1990, 1985, and 1980, respectively, in the purple, brown, and black belt categories for men, in addition to the Masters category for women born in 1996.
The same day also witnesses competitions for amateurs born in 2008, 1996, 1990, 1985, 1980 and before for men and women, in addition to categories for women born in 2008 and 1996 for white and blue belts.
Regarding the official weigh-in procedures for the first day, the association explained that it will be held in two stages, the first on Thursday, May 14, from five to seven in the evening, and the second on Friday morning, May 15, from eight to nine.
As for the second day, it will be dedicated to the categories of buds, cubs, juniors, and youth from the age of 4 to under 18 years for boys and girls, in confirmation of the great interest that the UAE attaches to building a broad base of practitioners from a young age, within sustainable development programs aimed at preparing new generations of champions capable of competing globally.
The official weigh-ins for these categories will be held on the evening of May 15 from five to seven, and the morning of May 16 from eight to nine.
The event concludes on its third day with competitions in the categories of professionals born in 2010 and before for the purple belt, and those born in 2008 and before for the brown and black belts for men and women, where weigh-in procedures will be held on May 16 from five to seven in the evening, and then on the morning of May 17 from eight to nine.
The tournament is of particular importance in terms of international classification, as it awards the first-place winners 3,000 points in the annual classification of the Abu Dhabi Professional Jiu-Jitsu Association, making it a major milestone in the journey of players seeking to enhance their presence on the global stage.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam embodies a successful model of investing in sports as a tool for comprehensive development, as Abu Dhabi was able to build an integrated jiu-jitsu system that combines hosting and organizing major tournaments, thus enhancing its spread and consecrating its noble values based on discipline, respect and fair competition.
Tariq Al-Bahri, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Professional Jiu-Jitsu Association, confirmed that the Association continues to expand its global presence by organizing specific tournaments on various continents, with the aim of discovering and refining talent, spreading the sport of Jiu-Jitsu, and creating champions capable of representing their countries in the best way.
He pointed out that the number of tournaments organized annually by the Association around the world exceeds 250, which reflects the scale of the efforts made to enhance the spread of the game and consolidate Abu Dhabi’s position as a global center for its development, with the close follow-up of His Excellency Abdul Moneim Al Hashemi, President of the Emirati and Asian Federations and First Vice President of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation.
He added that work is underway to produce a distinguished version of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam tournament, which has all the factors for success, including professional organization, a high technical level, and an exciting competitive atmosphere. He pointed out that recent days have witnessed a great demand for registration from various countries of the world, with expectations of the participation of about 2,000 male and female players in various categories.
Al-Bahri stressed that Abu Dhabi’s continuous successes in the sport of jiu-jitsu are the result of a long-term strategic vision, based on the support of the wise leadership and the integration of roles between sports institutions, ensuring the sustainability of achievements and strengthening Emirati leadership on the international arena.
