Abdullah bin Zayed chairs the meeting of the Supreme Steering Committee of the United Nations Water Conference 2026

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the meeting of the Supreme Steering Committee of the United Nations Water Conference 2026.
This important step comes as part of the UAE’s preparations to host the conference, and an embodiment of its firm commitment to enhancing the resilience of the water sector and consolidating its position as a strategic priority at the global level.
The Supreme Steering Committee includes Her Highness Sheikha Maryam bint Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office for National Projects Affairs, President of the Mohammed bin Zayed Humanitarian Impact Foundation, President of the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation, Minister of State for International Cooperation Affairs Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, and Minister of Investment Mohammed Hassan Al Suwaidi. The Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al-Dahhak, the Minister of State, Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, the Chairman of the Presidential Authority for Protocol and Strategic Narration, Mohammed Abdullah Al-Junaibi, the Chairman of the National Media Authority, Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, the Advisor to the President of the State for Strategic Research and Advanced Technology, Faisal Abdulaziz Al-Bannai, the Managing Director and CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, and the Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, Chairman of the Events Committee. Major General Ahmed Saif bin Zaitoun Al Muhairi, Secretary-General of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Head of the Crown Prince’s Office in the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court, Saif Saeed Ghobash, and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability Affairs, Abdullah Al-Alaa.
During the meeting, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed the importance of intensifying efforts and enhancing coordination at the national and international levels to confront water challenges, in light of the vital importance of this resource and its close interconnection with a number of vital sectors, including food security, energy, and environmental sustainability.
His Highness also stressed the need to employ innovation and advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, to enhance the efficiency of water resources management, improve productivity, and develop scalable solutions to address global challenges in the water sector.
His Highness pointed out that achieving effective and sustainable outcomes from the conference requires integrating efforts, enhancing innovation, and joint work between governments, institutions and various stakeholders.
For his part, Abdullah Al-Alaa reviewed the latest developments in the preparations for the conference, including the progress achieved and the level of ambition, in addition to the strategic approach of the UAE in organizing a high-impact conference.
He pointed to the most prominent international milestones, most notably the consensus achieved among all member states of the United Nations in July 2025 at the United Nations headquarters in New York, to define the topics of the six interactive dialogues, which is an important achievement that reflects renewed confidence in multilateral work, and forms a solid basis for the conference’s outcomes.
He stressed the UAE’s commitment to focusing on practical implementation, which is directly in line with the pivotal goal of the United Nations Water Conference 2026, which is to accelerate the implementation of Goal 6 of the Sustainable Development Goals.
He also stressed the country’s commitment to ensuring that the conference contributes to providing practical, measurable and scalable solutions to address water challenges at the global level.
For its part, the committee, which includes an elite group of senior officials and representatives of national government agencies, affirmed its joint commitment to organizing a successful conference that supports the UAE’s long-term vision in the field of sustainable management of water resources, and contributes to consolidating the position of water at the heart of the global development agenda.
