المملكة: Dust hours in the Kingdom decreased by 29% during April 2026


The Regional Center for Dust and Sand Storms announced that it recorded a 29% decrease in the hours of dust and sand events in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the month of April 2026, compared to the historical average, in a positive indicator that reflects the improvement Environmental and climatic conditions.

The Center explained in its monthly report that this decline included various forms of Dust activity, where Dammam topped the list of areas with the lowest decrease by 83%, followed by Dhahran by 79%, then Hafar Al-Batin by 78%, and Al-Ahsa by 74%, while other areas such as Turaif, Rafha, and Arar recorded varying percentages of decrease.

On the other hand, the center monitored an increase in dust activity in other areas, where Jeddah recorded the highest percentage of increase of 614%, followed by Riyadh by 85%, and Wadi Al-Dawasir by 82%, in addition to Al-Qurayyat, Al-Kharj, Yanbu and Al-Dawadmi in varying percentages.

Effect of dust conditions and weather fluctuations

The center attributed the reasons for the increase in some areas to being affected by exceptional dust conditions during the month of April, in addition to weather fluctuations that contributed to the activation of surface winds. While the reasons for the decline in other areas were attributed to improved vegetation cover and increased afforestation work, in addition to reducing logging, overgrazing, and high rainfall rates.

The Regional Center for Dust and Sand Storms confirmed the continuation of its efforts in monitoring and analyzing dust phenomena in the region, in a way that contributes to supporting decision-making and raising the level of environmental awareness, within its mission based on “We monitor, search, warn.”
