Rio Ferdinand launches a sports initiative to promote public health in Dubai

Rio Ferdinand, the English football star and former Manchester United club, in cooperation with the Dubai Sports Council, launched the “One Body” community sports initiative, which is scheduled to be held at 6:30 am next Sunday.

The initiative aims to expand the base for practicing sports in various areas of Dubai, including all segments of society, and enhance the quality of life and public health, by organizing free fitness classes and open to the public, led by Ferdinand and his wife Kate Ferdinand, with the participation of an elite group of international sports stars, within an interactive atmosphere open to everyone.

Ferdinand expressed his happiness at launching the initiative from Dubai, stressing that the emirate represents an ideal environment that brings together different nationalities and cultures around a healthy and active lifestyle, noting that the main goal is to encourage individuals to break the routine of daily life and adopt sports as an essential part of their lives.

Issa Sharif, Director of Sports Events Department at the Dubai Sports Council, confirmed that the initiative comes within the Council’s efforts to promote community sports and motivate community members to engage in physical activity on a regular basis.

He explained that attracting international sports figures of Ferdinand’s caliber reflects the Council’s orientation towards providing quality events that support public health and quality of life, noting that allowing participation without prior registration enhances the comprehensive societal nature of the initiative, and confirms that sports are available to everyone and are not limited to professionals.
