Hamdan bin Zayed visits a festival "Liwa for wet" At its 22nd session

ABU DHABI, 17 JULY / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, today visited the activities and competitions of the 22nd edition of the Liwa Dates Festival, which is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Presidential Court, and organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority during the period from 14 to 23 July in the city of Liwa in the Al Dhafra Region.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan said that the Liwa Dates Festival’s continuation of presenting this honorable image year after year reflects a solid approach wanted by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him,” in transforming heritage into a way of life and a starting point for sustainable development.
His Highness added: Today, we are not only celebrating the date palm, but we are celebrating the will of the Emirati human being who made the palm tree a symbol of resilience, a symbol of sustainability, and a basic pillar of our food security. Our ambition is to make this event a global destination that not only showcases heritage, but also creates agricultural solutions that serve the future of our generations and enhance the cohesion of our society.
During his tour, His Highness was briefed on the contestants’ entries in the date auction, the fruit competitions, the largest date tree, and the most beautiful date date competition. He also met with the judging committees and appreciated their efforts in establishing standards of accuracy and transparency, and their contributions to raising the quality of agricultural products.
His Highness’s tour included corners of heritage crafts that highlight the authenticity of the Emirati identity, pavilions of government and private agencies that showcase the latest agricultural technologies, and the date and agricultural seedlings market, which is a major destination for consumers and producers, and a platform that supports Emirati farmers in developing their tools and methods, in addition to the heritage market, which represents an economic and social window that serves the productive family.
His Highness was accompanied during the tour by Sheikh Yas bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Excellency Fares Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, His Excellency Muhammad Ali Al-Sharafa, Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, His Excellency Nasser Mohammed Al Mansouri, Undersecretary of the Office of the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, His Excellency Issa Hamad Bushahab, Advisor to the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, His Excellency Abdullah Mubarak Al Muhairi, Acting Director General of the Authority, and His Excellency Obaid Khalfan. Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of the Festivals and Events Sector at the Authority, and a number of officials and notables from the Al Dhafra region.
