In very touching words… the daughter of a famous artist reveals what she was exposed to at the hands of the Assad regime (video)

Sham Al-Dhahabi, the daughter of Syrian artist Asala Nasri, spoke in an emotional interview about the suffering her family faced during the past years because of their political stances against Bashar al-Assad’s regime and their support for the Syrian revolution.

In her speech, she pointed out “the great support her mother provided for the Syrian revolution since its beginning, and she expressed her pride in this national stance.”

Sham Al-Dhahabi explained that “her family was subjected to a series of threats and smear campaigns, especially through social media, where she was faced with offensive comments and electronic attacks whenever she published a photo of her with her mother,” stressing that “personally, she was receiving threats on her phone, and that this psychological pressure was not limited to her.” Alone, but it included many opponents who were subjected to arrest, torture, and even enforced disappearance.”

She also highlighted the constant suffering that her family experienced because they were forced to move away from their homeland for 14 years, for fear of assassination or arrest.

Sham Al-Dhahabi described the cost of freedom as “very high,” noting “the blood that was shed and the sacrifices made by Syrian young men and women for the sake of a free homeland. However, Sham called for tolerance and opening a new page for Syria, stressing the importance of unity to rebuild the homeland.”

Sham concluded her speech with a message of hope, stressing the need to move beyond the past and begin writing a new narrative for Syria, stressing that the homeland must be for everyone, far from any dependency on a person or regime. (Sky News)
