Deputy Coordinator: Discussions of the draft medical liability law sent reassuring messages to doctors and citizens

Representative Amira Al-Adly, a member of the House of Representatives for the Coordination of Youth of Parties and Politicians, stressed the importance of coming up with a draft law for medical liability that achieves a balance between protecting the rights of both the patient and the medical team.

 

The Deputy Coordinator said in her speech during the meeting of the Health Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, headed by Dr. Ashraf Hatem, today, Tuesday, to discuss the draft law on medical liability and patient protection, that she is happy and optimistic that with the end of the year 2024 and the arrival of the year New 2025, the draft medical liability law is being discussed, which is an important and necessary draft law.

Al-Adly praised the reassuring messages included in the committee meeting for doctors and citizens alike, while there was concern about deleting the article on pretrial detention for doctors and responding to the demands of the Medical Syndicate. The meeting witnessed clarification of important points that corrected matters that raised controversy over the draft law during the last period.

She indicated that the Youth Coordination of Parties and Politicians was keen during the past days to He held meetings and meetings to listen to different points of view on the draft medical liability law, where she met with Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population, about the philosophy and objectives of the draft law, and many points were clarified.  The Deputy Coordinator confirmed that the dialogue that took place was very promising regarding coming up with a law that achieves a balance between the rights of the medical team and patients, noting that the strictness in medical responsibility is not correct. It is a clear accusation against the doctor, and leniency with medical responsibility is also a violation of the patient’s rights.

The representative, Amira Al-Adly, concluded her speech, saying: “Our goal is to come up with a balanced draft law that protects the doctor’s right and the patient’s right and safety,” and she continued: “ As we begin a new year, we affirm that we want a law that achieves balance, the philosophy of which is protection and reassurance, not imprisonment of anyone.
