Meeting of the Higher Steering Group of the UAE-German Energy Partnership in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, 13 JANUARY / WAM / The UAE hosted the ninth meeting of the Supreme Steering Group of the Emirati-German Partnership in the field of energy and climate, which was organized by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action in Germany, in the capital, Abu Dhabi, within the framework of the two sides’ partnership in the field of Energy and Climate, which was signed at the beginning of 2017.

The meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the activities of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025, was attended by His Excellency Engineer Sherif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, His Excellency Stefan Wenzel, Parliamentary Minister of State at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action in Germany, and an elite group of senior officials and experts from the two countries.

His Excellency Engineer Sherif Al Olama said that this meeting comes within the framework of ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation between the UAE and Germany in the fields of clean energy and climate, and reflects the UAE’s commitment to developing innovative and sustainable solutions in the fields of energy and climate in a way that serves its future directions, capacity building, and its continuing endeavors to accelerate the transformation in the energy sector. This represents a strategic and national priority.

He added that enhancing cooperation in areas such as hydrogen, sustainable fuels, and energy efficiency reflects the ambition of the two countries towards building a sustainable and prosperous future, and the ongoing discussions on energy security and decarbonization enhance our ability to confront global challenges and achieve transformation in the energy sector, stressing the need to enhance joint work to implement Projects and initiatives that contribute to achieving the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, the Strategic Initiative for Climate Neutrality 2050, and the National Hydrogen Strategy 2050, which contributes to strengthening the UAE’s position as a leading energy country. Clean and sustainable.

During the meeting, cooperation priorities and areas of work that will be focused on during the year 2025 were identified, in a way that contributes to promoting sustainable development and achieving common goals for both countries. The focus was on discussing priority issues, including accelerating the use of hydrogen as a source of clean energy, and enhancing carbon markets. In addition to ways to improve the flexibility of energy networks and increase energy efficiency, as well as joint efforts to remove carbon from industrial sectors and enhance energy security through new initiatives.

His Excellency Stefan Wenzel, Parliamentary Minister of State at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action in Germany, said that the UAE-German partnership in the field of energy and climate embodies the power of cooperation in driving the transition towards renewable energy while enhancing economic growth and energy security, and by focusing on key areas such as the resilience of energy systems, Energy efficiency, engaging start-ups, and accelerating cross-border energy cooperation, we are turning ambitions into action and moving towards our shared commitments at COP28.

In another context, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure organized the Emirati-German Energy Day, under the title “Enabling Flexibility for Successful Integration of Renewable Energy,” during which the most important innovative solutions to enhance the flexibility of energy systems and achieve sustainable transformation were discussed.

The event, which was chaired by His Excellency Engineer Sherif Al Olama and His Excellency Stefan Wenzel, in the presence of a number of officials and experts from both countries, included sessions on the challenges and solutions for integrating renewable energy, battery energy storage solutions, and digital innovations, in addition to flexibility as a basic pillar of future energy networks.
