More than 102 thousand deaths annually due to air pollution in Bangladesh

The Center for Energy and Clean Air Research revealed that air pollution is responsible for about 102,456 deaths annually in Bangladesh.
According to the center’s study, titled “The Effects of Fine Particle Air Pollution on Public Health in Bangladesh,” pollution particles (PM 5.2) contribute significantly to several diseases.

These diseases cause, such as heart attack, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lower respiratory tract infections, and lung cancer.
The study added that children are more vulnerable to disease, with deaths among them amounting to 5,258 cases, due to lower respiratory tract infections associated with pollution particles (PM 5.2).

The most polluted country in the world

In 2023, Bangladesh was ranked as the most polluted in the world.
The country’s annual average concentration of pollution particles, 79.9 micrograms per cubic meter, is more than double the national standard of 35 micrograms per cubic meter.
As well as 15 times higher than the World Health Organization guideline of 5 micrograms per cubic meter.
