“Food and Drug”: The benefits of cumin are not indispensable for medical advice

The Food and Drug General Authority indicated that the cumin herb, known scientifically as (Cuminum Cyminum), has a health benefits and high nutritional value, as it contributes to improving the health of the digestive system, and helps to expel gases. The “Authority” indicated the importance of adhering to the recommended daily amount of cumin, which ranges from 1.5 to 3 grams per day, indicating that the small spoon equals 5 Gramps.

She explained that the consumption of cumin may conflict with blood and diabetes liquidity medications, due to the possibility of its similar effect on some of these drugs; Which may lead to health complications.

“Food and Drug” recommended consulting the specialist doctor before using cumin, especially for patients with blood clotting or diabetes disorders, in addition to pregnant and lactating women, because of the possibility of uterine contractions; Which may lead to an early birth, in addition to its potential effect on the balance of hormones during pregnancy.

She explained that the cumin may affect the digestive system. Which may lead to the infant with colic or diarrhea.

The “Commission” recommended to avoid the use of cumin at least two weeks before surgeries, due to the possibility of increased risk of bleeding.

She emphasized that herbs, like any substance with a therapeutic effect, should be used with caution, stressing the importance of consulting a doctor before taking them, especially as they may interact with some medications, or affect the absorption of some nutrients.
