Nutritional adjustments reduce the symptoms of endometriosis

Although endometriosis can be treated with medications or surgery, these options are not suitable for everyone, and a large number of women suffer from frequent symptoms even after surgery. Several study has sought to understand the food strategies that women use as a supplementary treatment for this condition.

Endometriosis affects about 10% of women of childbearing age. It is a chronic inflammatory condition that occurs when a tissue similar to the endometrium grows (endometrium) outside the uterus.

According to the “Medical Express”, endometriosis can cause chronic pain, swelling, disorder in bowel and bladder functions, pain during sexual intercourse, and infertility, and this may be reflected in mental health.

Researchers from Edinburgh University conducted a survey to monitor the impact of nutrition strategies as a treatment for relief of endometriosis.

Reducing some foods
The researchers found that reducing the intake of dairy, gluten, caffeine and alcohol products could reduce endometrial pain.

In this study, 2388 women have completed the uterine hypothesis survey. About 84% of the participants conducted at least one nutritional change, and 67% of them reported that these changes have improved their pain.

On the other hand, 59% of them used nutritional supplements, and 43% of them considered that these changes have improved their pain.

Food modifications

The poll revealed the impact of food adjustments to relieving pain as follows:

Reducing alcohol drink (pain relief in 53% of women).

Reducing gluten (45%).

Reducing dairy products (45%).

Reducing caffeine consumption (43%).

• Reducing the intake of manufactured sugar, which is found in foods and drinks such as: bullets, cakes, biscuits and soft drinks (41%).

• Reducing the eating of manufactured foods, which include: cold meat, snacks such as potato chips, sausage and chocolate rolls (38%).

• Following a diet that includes avoiding short chain carbohydrates (certain types of sugars) to reduce gases, swelling, pain and discomfort (32%).

• A medium diet, a diet rich in plant foods (including fruits and green leafy vegetables), excellent virgin olive oil, bread, fish, fermented dairy products, grains, low in red meat, meat and filled foods) (29%). (Emirates 24)
