Trump comments on the escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan .. What did he say?
This comes at a time when the tension escalates between the two nuclear powers after the attack on Tuesday in Kashmir.
India and Pakistan conflict
“This conflict in Kashmir has been present for a thousand years,” said the US president on the presidential plane on his way to Rome to attend the funeral of Pope Francis.
He added: “Tensions have occurred on these limits for 1500 years, and that is always the case. But they will address the problem in the form or another.”
The borders were drawn between the two countries when India and Pakistan gained their independence in 1947, while the two countries shared the Kashmir region. Each of them is still calling for sovereignty.
Rising tensions between India and Pakistan
The United Nations called on India and Pakistan on Friday to exercise “the utmost restraint” two days after the escalation of tensions by suspending the granting of visas, expelling diplomats and closing the borders.
This came after a Tuesday’s attack on tourists in Kashmir, followed by an exchange of fire for a short time early Friday morning.
