Dubai, May 12 / WAM / The United Arab Emirates, represented by the Emirates Balance Council, participated in the second technical meeting of the Women Empowerment Working Group in the Group of Twenty, which was held on May 8 and 9 in the Republic of South Africa, which chairs the current session of the Group of Twenty.
The Emirates Council for Gender Balance, which included both Moza Muhammad Al -Ghwis Al -Suwaidi, Secretary -General of the Council, and Maitha Al -Hashemi, Director of the Department of Strategic Studies and Legislation, reviewed the best practices that the UAE applies and its efforts in areas with the main priority of the women’s empowerment work group, which focuses in its current session on combating gender -based violence, advancing the economy of care, enhancing inclusion Financial, as well as the state’s efforts to empower women in leadership positions.
On this occasion, His Excellency Mona Ghanem Al -Marri, Vice -President of the Emirates Council for Gender, expressed her pride in the effective contribution of the United Arab Emirates in the Group of Twenty during her participation in her meetings as a permanent guest country, praising the efforts of a working group of women and their keenness to advance women and enhance gender in the level To empower women and ensure their full and equal participation in economic, social and public life.
She emphasized that enabling women to take leadership roles at all levels and ensuring that they obtain equal opportunities for success, constitutes a national priority based on their implementation on an integrated system that combines advanced legislation, institutional support, strategic initiatives and capacity -building programs, adding that determining the clear goals of inclusion and providing the necessary resources has contributed greatly to expanding the scope of women’s leadership in the government, business sector and fields Science, technology and green economics.
His Excellency Mona Al -Marri added that the meetings of the Empowerment Working Group in the Group of Twenty and other international forums that the Emirates Council for Gender is keen to participate in, under the direction of the campus of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the State, Deputy Prime Minister, President of the Presidential Bureau, Her Highness Sheikha Manal Bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the Emirates Council for Gender, is important international platforms to enhance cooperation and exchange experiences And introducing the Emirati experience inspiring in the gender.

During its participation in the second technical meeting of the Women Empowerment Working Group in the Group of Twenty, His Excellency Moza Al -Suwaidi reviewed the efforts of the UAE in developing women leaders and enhancing the role of women in various fields with support and encouragement from the rational leadership, within a framework of legislation, policies and institutional initiatives, and the resulting increase in the percentage of women’s representation at the level of parliamentary and ministerial representation and leadership positions in the governmental and private sectors, where it occupies 50% of The seats of the Federal National Council, and about a third of the ministerial positions in the UAE government, which establishes its position at the highest levels of national decision -making, and the percentage of its representation in the judiciary, the diplomatic corps and leadership positions in the federal and local authorities and the councils of public and private joint stock companies, in addition to the fact that the law of equal wages for equal work opens the doors to more women to occupy leadership positions in the business sector.
Moza Al -Suwaidi affirmed the UAE’s commitment to ensuring financial inclusion and full economic participation of women, as the constitution guarantees equal rights, and the Emirates Central Bank prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in obtaining credit and banking services, which enables women to access these services on a large scale.
The state’s efforts also reviewed the consolidation of the care economy as a basic pillar of family stability and sustainable economic growth, noting many federal and local laws, initiatives and policies in this field, including the laws of the status and maternity leave for working women, and the law of the parenting leave that gives the worker in the private sector a paid leave to take care of his child, and policies of remote work, in addition to the law of establishing nurseries in government agencies. In 2024, the Ministry of Family was established to supervise the programs of promoting family cohesion, based on the importance of the family as a basic pillar of social and economic stability.
The Secretary -General of the Emirates Balance Council dealt with the efforts of the UAE in combating gender -based violence, within decisive legal frameworks and effective policies to ensure the provision of a safe environment for women to live and work.
His Excellency Moza Al -Suwaidi concluded her speech during the meeting by emphasizing the importance of the Group of Twenty as a vital platform for a global dialogue aimed at pushing teamwork towards achieving gender balance, expressing the UAE’s aspiration to continue this important partnership with the countries of the group and work together towards a future in which men and women enjoy equal rights, opportunities and equal safety.
On the sidelines of the meeting, His Excellency Moza Al Suwaidi met the delegations of a number of participating countries with the aim of enhancing cooperation and exchanging knowledge and experiences in the field of gender balance, where she met with His Excellency Cindiciwi Chickea, Minister of Women, Youth and Disabilities in South Africa, Dr. Maymouna Bint Khalil Al Khalil, Secretary -General of the Family Affairs Council in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the owner of the Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Development in India, Luther Yosak Lulong, head of the Indonesian delegation, and Leo Soy Lin, Director at the Ministry of Social and Family Development in Singapore, was also held with Windy Teliky, Secretary General of the WE-FI Entrepreneurial Initiative, based in the World Bank, during which future cooperation opportunities were discussed.
