“NEOM Green Hydrogen” will meet 10% of the world’s targets

Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Al-Khorayef said that the largest facility in the world for producing green hydrogen, which the Kingdom is developing in, is expected to meet 10% of global targets for hydrogen production, in line with the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative to promote clean energy sources and reduce carbon emissions. Noting that achieving carbon neutrality requires joint international cooperation.
This came during his participation in a dialogue session within the activities of the fourth edition of the Saudi Green Initiative Forum, which is being held in the capital, Riyadh, under the slogan “By nature we take the initiative” in conjunction with the sixteenth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16).
Al Khareef pointed to the efforts of the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources to support industrial facilities to transition to environmentally friendly technologies through several initiatives, including the liquid fuel displacement program launched this year, to reduce industrial carbon footprints.

Jubail Industrial City

The Minister of Industry spoke about the successful coexistence between industry and the environment, which is demonstrated by Jubail Industrial City, which has transformed over fifty years from a desert into a green oasis and one of the largest industrial cities in the world, as a unique model that combines industrial progress and achieving the highest standards of environmental sustainability.
He pointed to the Kingdom’s prominent position in the global mining sector, due to its mining wealth amounting to $2.5 trillion, and its keenness to follow the latest sustainable practices in mining operations, exemplified by the phosphate mine in the city of Waad Al-Shamal, which takes into account the highest safety standards. environment, contributes to the development of local communities, and enhances the role of education in them.
He explained that the Kingdom is today one of the largest exporters of phosphate used in fertilizers to support agricultural activities and achieve food security.

International Mining Conference

Al-Kharif added: “The Kingdom has achieved great successes in transforming raw materials into high-value products, including transforming bauxite into aluminum products that can be used in advanced industries such as aviation and cars.”
He stressed that the International Mining Conference is an important platform for discussing future challenges in the mining sector, reviewing the most prominent global experiences of sustainability in the mining sector, innovative financing solutions, in addition to establishing effective partnerships.
