172 villages were destroyed… collapses and floods hit the Indonesian island of Java
Rescuers in Indonesia have recovered 10 bodies washed away by flood waters or buried under tons of silt and rocks that struck high-altitude villages on the island of Java, officials said Monday.
There are still two people missing, and Lieutenant Colonel Yudi Haryanto, who heads the rescue operations command site in Sukabumi, said that the monsoon rains that have fallen since last week have led to rivers overflowing their banks.
More than 170 villages were flooded in the Bukabumi district of West Java province, while rocks and trees fell from villages located at the foot of the mountains.

The authorities asked about a thousand people to evacuate more than 400 homes, exposed to the danger of bad weather.
