Teaching hospitals discuss the latest developments in ophthalmology and surgery
The General Authority of Hospitals and Educational Institutes celebrated the launch of the activities of the annual conference of the Memorial Institute for Research, which is of exceptional importance this year as it coincides with the celebration of the centenary of the founding of the Institute, under the patronage of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, and Dr. Muhammad Mustafa Abdel Ghaffar, Chairman of the General Authority for Hospitals and Educational Institutes.

Cairo, and will last for two days, in the presence of Dr. Nagham Abed, Vice President of the Authority for Scientific and Applied Research, Dr. Hazem Al-Nashar, Dean of the Memorial Institute for Ophthalmology Research, former deans of the institute, deputy deans of the institute for technical affairs and research, and an elite group of professors of ophthalmology and surgery in Egypt and the Arab world.
The conference witnesses intense scientific discussions on the latest research and developments in the field of ophthalmology and surgery, with the participation of an elite group of doctors and researchers. Specialists, On the second day, the conference activities will move to the headquarters of the Memorial Institute for Ophthalmology Research in Giza, in order to complete the scientific sessions and specialized workshops.
Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Abdel Ghaffar, President of the General Authority for Hospitals and Educational Institutes, stated that the Memorial Institute for Ophthalmology Research is one of the most ancient medical edifices in the region, as it has contributed since its establishment to combating eye diseases and providing care to citizens, as well as being a pioneering center for education and scientific research in the specialty of ophthalmology, and the Authority attaches utmost importance to supporting its role. The conference coincided with the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Institute, confirming our commitment to developing eye health care in Egypt through the exchange of experiences and the use of the latest global technologies.
The Chairman of the Authority added that the conference this year provides a scientific platform that discusses the most accurate developments in the field of ophthalmology, while its activities culminate in the centenary celebration under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister. The centenary is a testimony to the Institute’s permanent commitment to excellence in serving patients and ophthalmology research, and we look forward to the next hundred years of leadership and innovation in the field of preserving the blessing of ophthalmology. Dr. Hazem Al-Nashar, Dean of the Memorial Institute for Rheumatic Research, stated that the conference It includes a scientific program that contains a comprehensive presentation of the latest developments and research in all subspecialties of ophthalmology and surgery, with broad participation from professors and experts in ophthalmology from inside and outside Egypt. The main topics include the following:
• Anterior segment surgeries: including the latest techniques of corneal transplantation and vision correction using femto-LASIK technology.
• Cataracts and Glaucoma: Discussion of advanced surgical techniques and modern drug treatments.
• Diseases and surgeries of the retina and vitreous: focus on the treatment of diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration (AMD).
• Pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus: a review of the latest diagnostic and treatment protocols.
