After Austria and Germany… Italy announces the temporary suspension of asylum procedures for Syrians

Italy announced yesterday, Monday, the temporary suspension of asylum procedures for Syrians, following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, following the approach of its European partners, according to the government of right-wing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
This came after a meeting held by Meloni with her ministers in Rome to assess developments in the situation in Syria.
In Germany, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees also announced the suspension of all decisions related to asylum applications submitted by Syrians at the present time.
In the German streets, thousands of Syrians celebrated the fall of the regime in their homeland.

Austria suspends asylum applications

Austria said it had suspended all asylum applications for Syrians and was preparing to deport refugees to Syria after opposition fighters took control of Damascus and overthrew President Bashar al-Assad.
About 100,000 Syrians live in Austria, which constitutes one of the largest refugee groups in Europe, and thousands are awaiting approval of their asylum applications.
The Syrian armed opposition led by the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham group took control of the capital, Damascus, after more than a decade of bloody civil war in the country, with Assad leaving for Russia.
Numbers of Syrian refugees continue to flow across borders and crossings, to return to their motherland, after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

Return of Syrian refugees

Numbers of Syrian refugees in Türkiye began to flock to the border gates to return to their country after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
Bab al-Hawa Gate (Jelva Gozu), located in the town of Reyhanli (Reyhanli) in Hatay Province, southern Turkey, north of Idlib Governorate in northwestern Syria, is witnessing an influx of Syrians living in Hatay and the surrounding areas.
They appeared carrying their luggage to return to the cities and villages in which they grew up before their asylum journey in Türkiye.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said in statements in which he discussed developments in Syria and the possibilities of refugees returning to their country.
He stated that the number of people who have returned to their country since 2016 has reached 737,000 Syrians, and that the average number of returnees per month since the beginning of this year is 11,000 Syrians.
