Artist Salma Abu Deif, through her personal account on Instagram, launched a sharp attack on social media users and the virtual world and its impact on people’s perceptions and judgments.
Salma wrote under the title The Virtual World, saying: “One day, while I was sitting up in the sky, nothing concerned me, but some of the hypotheticals were real and the other half were inspired by my imagination… I was struck by the meaning of the word hypothesis, which is a theory without experience or reality that occurred.”

She added: “It is your valid point of view that you decided to assume, not to impose on us as an absolute truth and a principle that you invented in your dictionary, which is based on the environment in which you lived and some of the things that your father and mother told you about, and the religion that you learned a little from school, a little from your grandparents, without understanding.” Do not hope for it, and put some of the needs of the society around you in your mind based on some of the educational level in which you grew up and your personal efforts to educate yourself or operate your brain without… all of the above”.
She continued: “There comes the virtual world in which I say these two words from my site… a single screen that separates us through which we can make judgments, theories and slanders about some images that we have assumed based on our imagination and the extent of our understanding and image of ourselves in the mirror that we love or hate and do not know how to confront ourselves with. So we believe some people and celebrities that we don’t know from the pictures they put up.. Oh God, how beautiful their lives are.. Or God, look at them. How is she a bastard, not wearing clothes, an infidel, a savage, a loser? I don’t see how I care about her blood. This God is great, and his blood is as light as the moon, and there is nothing like it. You are my world, mighty.
Salma continued her post by saying: “This whole virtual world has created for you a space that builds and demolishes all the assumptions and slander that you have in yourself and your image of yourself that is reflected in your conscience, your self, and your awareness before your eyes, inside you in a real way, and in others in an imaginary way.”
She concluded her post by saying: “In general, good night, for how many pictures and lives of many people show you a 100% part of their real life, and you believe that this is reality and its purpose is to theorize and pass judgment on the reality of your shame and lack of heart.”
Salma’s post sparked great interaction among her followers, as some praised her frankness and boldness in confronting the false reality of social media, while others considered her message to be a call for contemplation and a return to reality, away from superficial judgments.
