Abu Dhabi Police warns of suffocation or fires when using coal and heating devices

Abu Dhabi Police and the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority, as part of the “Our Winter is Safe and Enjoyable” campaign, warned of the dangers of suffocation or fire outbreaks when lighting a fire using firewood or charcoal inside the house or rooms without taking safety measures into consideration.

She stressed the need to pay attention when using a wood-burning stove, especially at night, and not to sleep next to it to avoid the risk of suffocation or the outbreak of fire, God forbid. It should also be lit outside the rooms, or special extractors must be provided to allow the smoke to rise to the top, while maintaining proper ventilation, and not leaving it burning when finished. And turn it off outside the house.

She appealed to the public to adhere to public safety instructions and guidelines while using heating devices to avoid any accidents that may result from their misuse, and to avoid some wrong behaviors and actions when using heating devices that may cause accidents such as house fires or suffocation.

She urged the public to ensure the safety and durability of the wires connecting the heater and the electrical source, to avoid placing their wires under carpets, and not to allow children to play near or around the heater to avoid touching it, or being exposed to its heat and falling on flammable materials, and not to use it for heating, drying, or lighting incense and the necessity of Provide a “fire extinguisher” to extinguish the heater when leaving the place or when sleeping, and do not place it near water or a wet area.
