New Orleans Police said they were dealing with a hit-and-run accident that resulted in a large number of victims, with the death toll reaching 10 people and 30 others injured after a car hit a crowd of people on Canal and Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
The city of New Orleans confirmed the numbers in a statement on its website and said people were injured in a “mass casualty incident involving a vehicle that entered a large crowd at Canal and Bourbon streets.”
New Orleans police said in a statement reported by NBC affiliate WDSU that “large numbers of casualties have been reported on Bourbon and Iberville streets,” and that a vehicle may have struck people.
Historic Bourbon Street in the French Quarter is a popular tourist area, and was expected to be crowded throughout the night.
