French Foreign Minister: The Syrian authorities pledged to receive a mission from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot expressed his hope that the new authorities in Syria would allow all components of Syrian society to be represented, explaining that there should be no room for terrorism in the new Syria. He also revealed that he had received assurances from the new administration during his visit to Damascus that it would receive a delegation from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

 

Barrow said during his appearance as a guest on a program on RTL Radio: During his visit to Syria, he met with the leader of the new administration in Syria, Ahmed Al-Shara.

 

He added that his position is “clear regarding Ahmed Al-Shara’s past,” saying: “I know that some of these groups fought in Al-Qaeda and ISIS…but in the new Syria there should be no room for terrorism", according to the Russian Sputnik agency.

 

The French Foreign Minister also confirmed that he sent very clear and firm messages about France’s expectations regarding the political transformations in Syria, especially with regard to French interests, especially “countering ISIS terrorism and combating chemical weapons".

 

The French minister revealed that he had received pledges from the transitional authorities in Syria, that they would soon receive a mission from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

 

Noel Barrow expressed his hope that the new authorities would allow the representation of all components of Syrian society, which would serve the interests of the country, the region and France itself, considering that the French “suffered from the consequences of instability in Syria, which caused one of the largest Immigration trends to Europe, in addition to the escalation of terrorism.".

 

He added: "If we want to prevent all these threats, we need a sovereign and stable Syria".
