Implementing internal roads in “Al Awir First” in Dubai, with a length of 16.5 km

The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai announced the implementation of a new project to develop the internal road network in the Al Awir First area, with the aim of meeting the growing needs of the population and improving the quality of life.
The authority said, in a press statement yesterday, that “the project extends 16.5 kilometers long, and contributes to providing an additional entrance to the area from Emirates Road, and includes intersections and roundabouts, to facilitate residents’ access and reduce travel time, in addition to adding a lane on Emirates Road, from the entrance.” Al Awir 1 area leads to the entrance to the Emirate of Sharjah, and contributes to increasing the street’s capacity by 16%.”
The Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, Mattar Al Tayer, stated that the project comes within the framework of the Authority’s keenness to develop the basic infrastructure of the road and lighting network, and rainwater drainage in residential areas, to meet the increasing traffic volume, improve the flow of traffic, and raise the level of Traffic safety, noting that the first Al Awir area is one of the large residential areas, which includes villas, residential complexes, mosques and service buildings.
Al Tayer explained that the project includes the implementation of five-kilometre-long internal roads in the residential project of the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment, and the implementation of a road linking Emirates Road to the first Al Awir area, with a length of 7.5 kilometers, with a capacity of two lanes in each direction, intersections and roundabouts, and a reverse U-turn movement near Emirates Road, to connect… Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment project with Emirates Road.
He said that developing the new entrance and exit contributes to increasing the capacity of the region’s entrances and exits from 1,500 vehicles per hour to 3,000 vehicles per hour, an increase of 100%, indicating that the project also includes implementing an additional lane on Emirates Road, with a length of four kilometers, extending from The entrance to the first Al Awir area to the entrance to the Emirate of Sharjah, at a speed of 110 kilometers per hour, with a capacity of 2,000 vehicles per hour. This path will contribute to improving the flow of traffic. Traffic movement, increasing the street’s capacity by 16%.
It should be noted that the Authority has begun implementing additional entrances and exits in four residential areas: Al Warqa, Nad Hessa, Al Barsha South, and Wadi Al Safa 3, where work is currently underway to implement an additional entrance and exit to the Al Warqa area, directly from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and to develop Al Warqa Street 1, and converting the current roundabouts into intersections controlled by traffic lights with special specifications to ensure reducing traffic density.
The project serves more than 350,000 people, and when completed, it will contribute to facilitating the process of entry and exit to and from the area, increasing the capacity of Al Warqa Street 1 by 30%, reducing travel time by 80% from 20 minutes to 3.5 minutes, and reducing the travel distance from 5.7 kilometers. The project includes providing an additional entrance and exit to the Nad Hessa area from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and from Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, with a capacity of two lanes and a capacity of 6,000 vehicles per hour. It serves the Nad Hessa area, Al Warsan Fourth, Hessah Gardens, and Dubai Silicon Oasis. Its population is more than 300 thousand people.
The project in Wadi Al Safa 3 included implementing a direct entrance from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to the Wadi Al Safa 3 area for those coming from Dubai – Al Ain Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, with a length of four kilometers for internal roads and the entrance to serve the residents of the area. The project contributes to reducing the distance traveled for residents. The area is approximately 10 km away, and the access time to the area is reduced from 10 minutes to two minutes.
The Authority completed road development work in the Al Barsha South area, where modifications were made to the traffic lights at the intersection between Hessa Street and the Al Barsha South area, which included adding a third lane to turn left and enter from Hessa Street to the Al Barsha South area. The modifications also included the expansion of Hessa Street by adding two lanes. With a length of 1,114 metres, at the intersection that serves traffic coming from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Al Khail Road, bringing the total number of lanes to four lanes in each direction, and the project contributes to improving Entrances and exits to the Al Barsha South area, increasing the capacity from 6,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, to 9,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, improving the flow of traffic, and reducing the waiting time at the traffic light from four minutes to one minute.
