المملكة: Developments in Syria, Lebanon and the Gaza Strip are positive

Today, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in a plenary session entitled “Diplomacy in Times of Chaos,” within the sessions of the World Economic Forum 2025, held in the Swiss city of Davos.
During his participation in the session, His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the Middle East region possesses enormous potential that qualifies it to look toward a better future, despite all the challenges it faces and the risks it has witnessed recently. He pointed out that the current developments in Syria, Lebanon, and the Gaza Strip appear positive and call for optimism.

The Syrian issue

Regarding the Syrian issue, His Highness explained that the Syrian people have great capabilities and enormous resources, which provides a real opportunity to move Syria towards a very positive path, stressing the importance of the international community’s participation in enhancing this and supporting the Syrian people to achieve a better future vision.
His Highness the Foreign Minister indicated that the Kingdom noticed a strong desire from the new Syrian government to communicate with partners in the region and the international community, citing his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the new Syrian administration in Riyadh, and his participation in the Riyadh meetings on Syria that the Kingdom hosted last week.

Reforms in Lebanon

His Highness stressed the importance of lifting the sanctions imposed on Syria to enable everyone to provide assistance to the brotherly Syrian people. He also indicated that the Kingdom took the initiative to provide early humanitarian and relief aid as part of its efforts to alleviate human suffering in Syria.
Regarding the Lebanese issue, His Highness considered the election of a new president for Lebanon after a long period of political vacuum “a very positive matter,” stressing the need for Lebanon to continue implementing serious reforms that reflect its aspiration towards a better future, and expressing his hope that the Lebanese themselves will assume responsibility for making the decisions that Their country is pushing toward a different, more stable path.
