UNESAN’s inflation increased by 2.6 % during December on an annual basis

In the latest indication of the continued price pressure in the country, the inflation rate in the United States increased last month, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
The ministry stated that it increased by 2.6 % in December on an annual basis, an increase of 2.4 % on an annual basis in November, and in the third consecutive increase.

Prices increased, with the exception of food and troubled energy categories by 2.8 % on an annual basis, the same percentage that increased in November and October.
The data came only two days after the Federal Reserve officials, led by the bank’s governor, took the decision to stop the interest rate.
This is partly due to the firmness of inflation in a significant manner at about 2.5 %, which exceeds the target 2 %, over the previous six months.

Nevertheless, most economists expect that inflation will continue to decline steadily in the coming months.
Upon measurement of inflation in shorter time frames, it turns out to decrease. In December, basic prices increased by 0.2% compared to the previous month, at a pace that is almost compatible with the annual level targeted by the Federal Reserve.
Economists are closely following the basic prices, as they offer a better reading about the direction of inflation.
