Greece .. published emergency teams on Santorini Island amid anxiety due to earthquakes

The Greek authorities closed the doors of schools and deployed emergency crews on the volcanic island of Santorini today, Monday, after a rise in seismic activity, which raised fears of a potential strong earthquake.
The authorities also took precautionary measures in many nearby Aegean Islands – all of which are famous and summer holidays – after recording more than 200 earthquakes under the sea in the region during the past three days.

Activating precautionary procedures

“These measures are precautionary, and the authorities will remain in a state of vigilance and anticipation, and we urge citizens to strictly commit to safety recommendations to reduce risks,” said the Minister of Civil Protection, Vasilis Kikelias, late Sunday, after an emergency meeting of the government in Athens.
While Greek experts say the earthquakes, which reached a power of 4.7 degrees, are not linked to the dormant Santorini volcano, they admit that the seismic activity pattern is a source of concern.

Impose instructions

The firefighting department rescue teams arrived with police dogs on Sunday, set up tents in the open areas, and the authorities advised the population and visitors to avoid large gatherings in closed places, while instructing hotels to dry the swimming pools to reduce the potential damage that may be caused to the buildings due to the earthquake.
