Russia declares control of the East Ukraine strategic town

Russia announced today, Friday, that its forces took control of after fierce battles that lasted for months on Toretsk in eastern Ukraine.
The largest town that Moscow confirms the seizure in the past few months.

Russia has been seeking for several months to control the industrial town located in the eastern Donetsk region, as this will enable it to obstruct vital Ukrainian supply routes.
The Ministry of Defense announced that as a result of the active offensive operations, the city of Dezirginsk in the People’s Republic of Donetsk was released “using the Russian name for the city and the region.
The population of the city, in which the coal mines were previously abundant, was about 30,000 people before the Russian invasion in 2022.

Russia’s control over the Ukrainian Toritsk

By July, the number decreased by 90 percent due to the battles, according to the local administration.
It was inhabited by a few retirees who were unable or unwilling to leave, despite a daily bombing that causes destruction and water outage.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said before Russia’s announcement on Friday, that the city had become “ruin”, and published a picture of destroyed buildings on the X platform.
“This was one day one of them’s home. A place where people lived, laughed and built their future. Now, only ruin,” she added, without commenting on whether the city was under the control of Russia.
