This proposal was a major part of Zelinski’s talks with US Vice President JD Vans, which took place on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Friday, but it did not include any specific security guarantees in return, according to a current Ukrainian official and a former official familiar with the talks.
A senior White House official described Zelinski’s decision not to accept the proposal, at least at the present time, as short -sighted.
“I did not allow the ministers to sign the concerned agreement, because in my opinion it is not ready to protect our interests,” Zellinski told Associated Press on Saturday in Munich.

Huge mineral reserves

Ukraine has huge reserves of strategic minerals used in aviation, defense and nuclear energy industries.
The administration of US President Donald Trump has expressed its interest in reaching it to reduce dependence on China, but Zelinski stressed that any exploitation of these resources should be linked to security guarantees that protect Ukraine from any future Russian aggression.
“For me, it is very important to link some kind of security guarantees with the form of some forms of investments,” said Ukrainian President.

During his appearance on Fox News, Waltz described the deal as a protection in itself, adding: “I don’t think there is a better security guarantee than being an investment partner of President Trump.”
He added: “The American people deserve to recover part of what they paid, and they deserve a kind of response to the beautiful for the billions that he invested in this war.”
He said that Zelinski would be very wise if this agreement is concluded with the United States.
