Rejection and anticipation … globally negative reactions to American customs duties
A White House official told reporters that the new drawings will enter into force as follows: On April 5 at 04:01 GMT for 10%, the minimum that Trump decided to impose on all his country’s imports.
On April 9 at 04:01 of those that exceed this extent, and it is especially targeting commercial giants such as China and the European Union.
Meloni: A bad procedure
Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni said that the customs duties imposed by Trump on his country’s imports from the European Union are a “bad procedure”, warning that the outbreak of a trade war will only lead to weakening the West.
Meloni said in a statement: “The United States imposed customs duties on the European Union, a wrong prepared by any of the two parties,” Meloni said in a statement.
She added: We will do our best to reach an agreement with the United States to avoid a trade war that will inevitably weaken the West in favor of other international actors.
Britain: We do not intend to respond immediately
British Trade Minister Jonathan Reynolds has announced that the United Kingdom is still committed to reaching an agreement with the United States to alleviate the impact of customs duties imposed by President Trump, and does not intend to take revenge measures immediately.
The minister said: “Since the United States is our closest ally, our approach is to remain calm and adhere to this agreement that we hope to reduce the impact of what was announced today,” that is, 10% customs duties on all British exports to the United States, which is the lowest percentage of Trump on all his country’s commercial partners.
Australia: Unjustified
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanizi said that the customs duties imposed by President Trump are “at all unjustified” and would change his country’s relationship with the United States.
After Trump imposed customs duties in different proportions on all his country’s commercial partners, including Australia, which has reached 10%fees on its exports to the United States, Albanizi said during a press conference: “These fees are not unexpected, but let’s be clear, they are not justified at all.”
He stressed that these drawings “will have consequences on the Australians’ view of this relationship.”
