Maktoum bin Muhammad stresses the importance of sustainable development of the tax system

His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Governor of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Tax Authority, chaired the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Federal Tax Authority, where His Highness was briefed on the achievements and indicators of the authority’s performance during the last period, and its development plans for the next stage to keep pace with the rational leadership’s directives to continuously advance the tax system to enhance its effective role in supporting financial sustainability.
His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stressed during the meeting held today at the Authority’s headquarters in Dubai, the importance of sustainable development of the tax system, which comes within the framework of the government’s plans to anticipate the future by diversifying revenues to support the ambitious development process, and ensure the continuity of economic prosperity.
He directed His Highness to continue efforts to strengthen the authority’s leadership globally through the continuous development of the technical, legislative and procedural structure, in a manner that ensures the maintenance of providing the best services to dealers to facilitate and accelerate management procedures, collection, and implement federal taxes in high quality, according to the best criteria for governance and transparency, and in a way that contributes to encouraging voluntary tax compliance, and maintaining the state’s competitiveness Globally, support the national economy.
His Highness was briefed on the achievements of the authority regarding the application of the corporate tax law, as all the basic tax services provided to taxpayers have been completed.
These services cover the customer’s journey completely, starting with the process of registration in the corporate tax until the provision of declarations, payment of tax dues, voluntary permit and recovery request, and the internal services supporting the customer’s trip have been completed, and during the current year a number of new publications were launched to facilitate the customer’s trip, and the authority is working to issue a set of guidance evidence, and more than 56 activities were implemented to raise awareness of corporate tax, in addition to communication with They are subject to tax to urge them to register for corporate tax.
During the meeting, His Highness also reviewed a comprehensive report on the achievements, results and developments of the main existing projects of the authority, which showed a significant increase in the number of registered in the corporate tax to 537.34 thousand registered, and the increase in the number of registrants in the value -added tax to 510.94 thousand registered, and the number of registrants for the selective tax increased to 1,756 registered, The expansion of the base of the tax system continued, as the number of tax agents increased to 676.
According to the report, the authority approved 1,656 new requests for citizens who recovered the tax they paid for building their new housing with a total value of 148 million dirhams during the first quarter of this year 2025.
The report pointed to the authority’s efforts to issue and update tax policies constantly in line with the authority’s strategy to support the implementation of taxes in accordance with tax legislation and best global practices.
The Authority continued to implement its plans for the continuous update of the “Emirates TAX” tax services platform to improve the quality of services provided by the authority within its comprehensive strategy for digital transformation in all its services to facilitate voluntary tax compliance, and to provide proactive services to customers.
