Fire belt .. 6.4 Richter earthquake strikes off the coast of Babua Guinea

A 6.4 -magnitude earthquake hit Tuesday off the coast of the northern Papua Guinea, according to the American Geophysics Institute.
The earthquake recorded a depth of 52.7 km, about 117 km from Anguram.

The earthquakes are common in Papua New Guinea, which is located on top of the seismic “fire belt”, which is an intensive tectonic arch that runs across Southeast Asia and across the Pacific Ocean basin.
Although it rarely causes widespread damage to low -population areas, it can lead to devastating soil slides.
