"Sharjah Heritage" Looking to enhance cultural cooperation with Maldives

Sharjah, June 11 / WAM / The Sharjah Institute of Heritage discussed ways to enhance cultural and heritage cooperation between the Emirate of Sharjah and the Republic of Maldives, during a meeting that brought together Dr. Abdulaziz Al -Muslim, President of the Institute, today at the Institute’s headquarters, with His Excellency Mohammed Hussein Sharif, Ambassador of the Maldives to the UAE.

During the meeting, Dr. Al -Muslim handed an official invitation to choose the Republic of Maldives, guest of honor of the twenty -fifth session of the Sharjah International Forum for narrator, stressing that this invitation comes in appreciation of the ancient Maldivian culture.

Dr. Al -Muslim explained that the meeting dealt with the fields of joint cooperation in the areas of unnecessary cultural heritage and the exchange of experiences in preserving and documenting oral accounts and folk tales.

He pointed out that the narrator’s forum has become a global platform that celebrates the tales, narrators and the popular memory campaign from various cultures .. He said: “The participation of the Maldives this year will enrich the forum program with new tributaries of tales and myths related to the sea and the islands and are close to our conscience and our Gulf heritage.”

For his part, His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Hussein Sharif expressed his deep thanks and appreciation for the invitation, praising the efforts of the Sharjah Institute of Heritage in extending the bridges of cultural communication between peoples, stressing that the choice of his country is a guest of honor for the forum constitutes a distinguished opportunity to present the Maldivi heritage to an Arab and international audience.

He pointed out that the Maldives has a rich balance of stories and oral myths inspired by its maritime environment, which makes its participation in the forum a real addition that contributes to promoting cultural dialogue and enriching the heritage scene.

The meeting included an introductory video of “The Maldivi Heritage Week 2021”, in addition to discussing the prospects for cultural cooperation and the upcoming Maldivian participation in the activities of the forum.

Dr. Abdulaziz Al -Muslim also presented a set of publications of the institute, which highlights the Emirati and Gulf cultural heritage, especially in the areas of folk tales and oral memory, pointing to the aspects of interconnection between the marine heritage in the Emirates and the Maldives.

It is noteworthy that the Sharjah International Parry Forum, organized by the Sharjah Heritage Institute, was launched 25 years ago as a pioneering cultural project concerned with tales, narrators and the oral heritage campaign from all over the world.
