It covers 7 vital areas .. Self -driving vehicles are launched in the streets of Riyadh

Today, Wednesday, the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Transportation Authority, Saleh bin Nasser Al -Jasser, launched the initial applied stage of self -driving vehicles in Riyadh, in a qualitative step aimed at enabling technology and expanding the application and development of a smart and safe system for the transportation sector in the Kingdom.

Coverage

Self -driving vehicles start at this stage within a realistic operating environment covering King Khalid International Airport and a number of vital sites in Riyadh, and include fast roads and selected destinations in the city center.
The number of stations in the initial stage of 12 months, 13 stations covering 7 vital sites, while the maximum speed of vehicles will be 100 km/ h.
The stage is implemented under the direct organizational and technical supervision of the General Authority for Transport, and vehicles work during this stage to transport passengers with a safety official in each vehicle, to ensure safety and follow up on the performance of smart systems in actual circumstances.

Multilateral partnership

This project comes the result of a complementary partnership that collected and logistical services and relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Interior, the system of digital economy, space and innovation, the Saudi Authority for Data and Artificial Intelligence (Sidia), the General Authority for Survey and Information Possibility, and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Authority, along with the private sector representing technical and operating partners, Uber, Weride, Weride And Aidriver.

Extended expansion

This step comes within the directions of the national strategy for transport and logistical services, and as an extension of the Kingdom’s 2030 vision towards adopting sustainable transportation solutions based on the latest findings of artificial intelligence techniques.
The Minister of Transport affirmed that the launch of the initial applied stage embodies the ambitious vision of the Kingdom towards building an integrated and integrated transportation system that supports economic growth and improves the quality of life.
He pointed out that enabling modern technologies and developing organizational and operational frameworks represents a major axis to expand the application of this technology and supports the transformation it is witnessing, and as an extension of the Kingdom’s efforts towards promoting sustainability, raising the efficiency of mobility, and resettlement of innovation, stressing that this project is a model to be followed in the partnership between the public and private sectors towards a future that is intelligent and securely broader.
