5 dead .. The bodies of missing workers were found in the collapse of the Chilean mine tunnel
Chile officials announced the end of the search for survivors after a tunnel collapsed inside the largest copper mine in the world, following the finding of the body of the last missing worker.
Akilis Copelos, the prosecutor of the Ohgins region in Chile, told reporters that the dead bodies of the five missing workers were found.
The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon in the “El Tentente” copper mine after a 4.2 -degree earthquake, and it is still under investigation to find out whether it is normal or caused by drilling operations.
On Sunday, Kodelco Mining announced that two bodies were found working at a depth of 1200 meters.

100 rescue elements
At least 100 rescue elements participated in the searches inside the mine, which includes 4,500 km of underground subway.
President Gabriel Borik visited relatives of the missing mine workers on Saturday, and promised them to complete the searches.
The work was suspended in the mine, which produces 356 thousand tons of copper annually, equivalent to 6.7% of Chile production.
Chile is the largest copper producer in the world and is responsible for a quarter of global supplies, with its production in 2024 5.3 million tons.
The mining industry in Chile is one of the safest in the sector level in the world, with a death rate of 0.02% last year, according to the country’s geology and mining in the country.
