The World Postal Federation Conference .. Syria re -activates postal services and controls the financial transfers market

Dubai, September 8 / WAM / Syria is working to re -activate postal services after years of interruption and decline, as well as to control the financial transfers market through exchange companies on the one hand and reactivate financial transfers via Syrian mail in the context of participation and cooperation between the public and private sectors and the global postal union.
Imad Al -Din Hamad, Director General of the Syrian Post Corporation, “Syrian Post”, stressed on the sidelines of Syria’s participation in the work of the World Postal Union conference in its “28” session held in Dubai, that participation is an important opportunity to enhance the presence of the Syrian mail on the international scene and openness to the member states of the World Postal Union, praising the good organization and reception from the UAE that hosts this global event.
He explained that the Syrian Post Corporation is currently working on a plan to reactivate its services after years of decline, for eight months, and this plan includes financial, logistical and international shipping services.
He added that international shipping through the Syrian Post was almost completely suspended during the last period, and it is now being activated to reactivate it according to international standards and to serve citizens and link Syria again to the global postal system.
He pointed out that Syria participated in the conference with an official delegation headed by the Minister of Communications, stressing that the Syrian presence reflects the trend towards openness and strengthening bilateral relations, especially with the Arab countries, pointing out that the institution seeks to open new cooperation channels with the Emirates Post as well as previous experiences with Qatar, Turkey, Tunisia and the Maghreb countries.
On the financial aspect, the Director General of the Syrian Post Corporation revealed that the Foundation is working to reactivate financial transfers via the Syrian mail through the IFS (International Financial System) of the World Postal Postal Union, which allows the transfer of money directly between postal networks in member states.
He said that the Syrian mail is working in full consensus with the Syrian Central Bank, which supervises the financial policy in the country, while the communications and postal Authority shall assume the task of granting licenses for financial remittances and market control.
He added that Syria has an extensive network that includes more than 300 workers, in addition to 137 other offices under rehabilitation, explaining that this network is a basic pillar to deliver financial and postal services to various regions, and to facilitate receiving remittances from abroad.
He stressed that the government’s policy is based on participatory between the public and private sectors, where private companies are enabled without canceling the role of the Syrian Post Corporation as a service institution of an economic nature, providing its services at symbolic prices that take into account citizens.
He said: Our primary goal is to serve the citizen, control the market, and ensure the sustainability of the postal and financial services sector in an integral framework between the public and private sector.
He stressed that the World Post Conference constitutes an opportunity to confirm the Syrian presence on the international scene and exchange experiences, expressing its optimism to open new cooperation horizons through it, especially with the Emirates Post, in a way that enhances the integration of postal, financial and logistical services.
