Nahyan bin Mubarak and the Prime Minister of Kerala witness the celebration of Kerala Day “Kerala Piravi” in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, 10 November / WAM / His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, and His Excellency Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala, witnessed the “MALAYALOTSAVAM” event to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the state of Kerala – Kerala Piravi.
The celebration took place at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, in the presence of His Excellency Saji Cherian, Minister of Culture of Kerala, His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Mittal, and businessman Yusuf Ali M. Yes, and a gathering of dignitaries, with the participation of more than 5,000 members of the Malayali community in the country.
His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak said in his keynote speech: “I am very pleased to welcome you to the United Arab Emirates, and I extend to you all my best regards and sincere appreciation. It is a great honor to have you with us today.”
His Excellency stressed the UAE’s appreciation for the continued support for the close relations between Kerala, India and the UAE, and that common values and interests enable us to move together towards a more peaceful and prosperous world.
His Excellency praised Ambassador Dr. Mittal and his contributions to strengthening the excellent relations between the two countries, and said: “I commend my dear friend Yusuf Ali M.A. for his pivotal role in consolidating economic and cultural ties, as he is a loyal son not only of Kerala but of the UAE as well.”
His Excellency thanked the audience for celebrating the cultural and linguistic identity of Kerala, noting that the global Kerala community is known for its talent, competence and vitality, and that adherence to culture and heritage inspires pride and enriches the positive scene in the country.
His Excellency pointed out that the people of Kerala constitute an integral and valued part of the fabric of Emirati society, and that the state’s excellence in education has contributed to adding quality to the process of prosperity in the country and the region.
On behalf of the people of the Emirates, His Excellency expressed his thanks for the effort, reliability and sincerity of the Malayalee community, stressing that they are an invaluable element in our society, and explained that his interactions with them were always inspiring.
His Excellency noted that the deep connection to the roots, in parallel with the effective contribution to the renaissance of the Emirates, enriches both countries, and that the diversity of the population of Kerala reflects the diversity of the Emirates, where multiple nationalities and religions live in harmony and cooperation, under a “big Arab tent” that can accommodate everyone.
His Excellency stressed that the UAE, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, is proceeding on the path of economic and social progress guided by the values of compassion and the preservation of human dignity, and that the strength of the UAE stems from its diversity and the integration of the skills and experiences of all who live and work on its land, with a firm commitment to an inclusive, tolerant and welcoming society for all.
Addressing the audience, His Excellency said: “Our friendship with Kerala and with India is ancient and rooted in mutual respect and cooperation. Let meetings like this be a platform for dialogue and understanding and opportunities for further cooperation and joint progress.”
His Excellency explained that Kerala is a shining example of India’s strength and achievements in education, sustainable development and technological progress, and that the values of generosity and service to others that its people have deserve appreciation, praising the “Kerala Story” in eliminating extreme poverty as an exceptional achievement and an example to follow.
He congratulated everyone on “Kerala Day”, stressing pride in the culture, achievement and positive contribution of the community in the Emirates and the world, and looking forward to a brighter future for the people of the Emirates and India.
For his part, His Excellency Pinarayi Vijayan, Prime Minister of Kerala, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak.
Al Nahyan for his sponsorship of the event and the warm reception, stressing that His Excellency’s initiatives in consolidating the values of tolerance and coexistence inspire communities and strengthen bridges of cooperation between Kerala and the UAE.
He praised the support enjoyed by the Malayali community in the country, noting that this support translates into realistic opportunities for growth and prosperity. He expressed his government’s aspiration to expand partnerships in investment, infrastructure, social care and exchange of experiences in education, health and technology. He congratulated the people of the community on the occasion of “Kerala Bairavi” and expressed his wishes for closer relations in the future.
Kerala Piravi Day falls on November 1 of every year, to commemorate the founding of the state in 1956. The organization of “MALAYALOTSAVAM” in Abu Dhabi on November 9, 2025 aims to present a comprehensive picture of Kerala’s achievements over seven decades, and highlight its cultural heritage and agricultural and industrial progress, through artistic performances and community programs that enhance dialogue and communication between cultures.
