Trump threatens Mexico with new tariffs over a water dispute

The American President threatened Donald Trump Assuming Additional customs duties on Mexico by 5%, accusing the country of violating a water-sharing agreement between the two sides.
He announced Trump on his platform Truth Social that he will impose "A 5% tariff on Mexico if this water is not released immediately"noting that crops and livestock were severely damaged in Texas.
Trump accused Mexico of violating an agreement concluded in 1944 under which it shares water from the Colorado River with the United States in exchange for flows from the Rio Grande River, which forms part of the border between the two countries.
American farms were damaged
Trump said that Mexico owes the United States 800,000 acre-feet of water under the terms of the agreement, demanding that it "By releasing 200,000 acres – some of which were provided before December 31, with the remaining quantity to be released shortly thereafter."
He added: "The longer it takes Mexico to release water, the more damage to our farmers"
This step aimed at enhancing water supplies to Texas farmers coincided with Trump’s announcement of a $12 billion aid package for the American agricultural sector, which was affected by his trade policies and the customs tariffs that he imposed on trading partners.
Trump’s previous threats
Last April, Trump threatened Mexico with economic consequences due to the water dispute, which prompted Mexico at the time to immediately release water, and continue to fulfill Its obligations under the 1944 agreement.
Mexican goods currently face a 25% tariff if they are not subject to the existing USMCA free trade agreement between the United States, Canada and Mexico, which was concluded during Trump’s first term.
