Global food prices continued to decline in January

Global food prices fell in January for the fifth month in a row, supported by lower prices for dairy products, sugar and meat, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported today.
The FAO said its food price index, which tracks monthly changes in a basket of globally traded food commodities, averaged 123.9 points in January, down 0.4 percent from December and 0.6 percent year-on-year.
