Trump appoints advisor on artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies

US President-elect Donald Trump late Thursday appointed former PayPal Chief Operating Officer David Sachs as the “Administrator of Artificial Intelligence and Cryptocurrencies” in the White House.
The wealthy technology entrepreneur will take on the newly created position, advising the Trump administration on cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence.

American competitiveness

Trump said in a post on social media, “David will direct the US administration’s policy in the areas of artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies, which are two areas of great importance to American competitiveness.”

He continued, “It will protect freedom of expression on the Internet and distance us from the bias and censorship of technology giants.”
Sachs, whose fortune is estimated at billions of dollars, is part of PayPal’s so-called “mafia” of influential technology entrepreneurs that includes Elon Musk and Peter Thiel.
In support of Sachs, J.D. Vance as Trump’s candidate for vice president in the recent US elections and hosted him on his podcast.
