المملكة: The Saudi Society for Heritage Preservation is a member of the UNESCO Evaluation Committee

The Intergovernmental Committee for the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced on Friday evening, at its annual meeting, the nomination of the Saudi Society for Heritage Preservation to this committee as the first Saudi association to be a member of the Evaluation Committee during the 2025 session for a period of four years. years.
Her Royal Highness Princess Sarah bint Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Chairwoman of the Society’s Board of Directors, confirmed that membership was only achieved with support from the Ministry of Culture, the National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, and the Permanent Delegation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to UNESCO in Paris.

Preserving cultural heritage

Membership comes as a result of the experience gained by the Saudi Society for Heritage Preservation since its founding in 2010 in applying the policies and directives of UNESCO in the process of preserving, safeguarding and transmitting intangible cultural heritage to future generations.
It is noteworthy that the committee consists of six international experts and six associations accredited by UNESCO to evaluate the files that are nominated to join UNESCO’s list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and the extent to which they meet the standards and conditions for registration on the list.
