In detail… features of the formation of the new government in France
Green Party leader Marine Tondolier said after meeting Macron at the Elysee Palace that the president had proposed a “new approach” to forming a new government.

Macron appointed conservative Barnier as prime minister after early elections in July failed to secure a clear majority for any bloc.
Last week, Barnier was ousted in a vote on a no-confidence motion due to a cost-cutting budget project for 2025 to address France’s large deficit.
Tondillier said that new elections are unlikely to be held until the summer, forcing Macron to call for a “meeting of the various political forces to discuss a programme” that might unite them within the government.
But securing a majority will be difficult in a parliament divided between the New Popular Front coalition, Macron’s centrists and conservatives, and the National Rally.

Tondillier reported on Monday that Macron “was very clear that the National Rally is not among the parties wishing to engage in dialogue.”
The National Rally initially supported the minority government led by Barnier before contributing to its overthrow.
It remains for the left, the center, and the center-right to cooperate to find common ground after divisions, since Macron won his first term in 2017.
