المملكة: The Saudi Space Agency launches the “Sary” satellite design competition
The Saudi Space Agency announced the launch of the “SARI” competition, which aims to enable male and female university students in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to gain advanced expertise in designing and building small satellites, thus contributing to enhancing innovation and competitiveness in the space sector.
This initiative comes within the Kingdom’s vision aimed at developing national competencies, highlighting talent in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and creating a stimulating environment for creativity and scientific excellence among universities.
Scientific experiments
The competition seeks to support scientific research and experiments, and provide applied opportunities for students that enable them to work on designing and developing small satellites, in addition to enhancing job opportunities in technical fields related to space science.
The Saudi Space Agency works to create a stimulating environment for competition between universities, with a focus on developing the scientific and engineering skills of students through specialized supervision by experts in the field, organizing intensive workshops, and providing the technical resources necessary to implement projects efficiently and professionally.
The competition includes stages that begin with the opening of the application window, which begins on the twelfth of December and continues until the ninth of February, followed by the stage of evaluating the entries from the tenth to the fifteenth of February, and then announcing the nominated teams on the sixteenth of February.
Intensive training
The intensive training phase for the nominated teams begins on February 23rd and continues until April 17th, followed by the announcement of the final teams on April 27th. The competition concludes with the launch of satellites designed by the participating teams in the final stage.
The competition is open to all Saudi university students at the bachelor’s level, provided that the applicant specializes in one of the fields of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, and forms a team from the same university whose members range between three to five students.
University email
The competition also requires that the university email be used when registering, and that the student is not allowed to participate in more than one team. Registration includes clear steps that begin with forming the team and choosing a leader, then filling out the required data through the electronic portal designated for the competition, making sure that all conditions are met and the registration stages are completed.
The competition provides teams with a unique opportunity to launch small satellites aimed at practical applications in various fields such as space imaging, data analysis, navigation applications, and Internet of Things programming, which opens new horizons for students towards achieving scientific and technical excellence, and contributing to building a promising future for the space industry in the Kingdom. . This step reflects the Saudi Space Agency’s commitment to developing national competencies and achieving leadership in the space sector at the local and global levels.
