The Ruler of Sharjah witnesses the launch of the eighth session of the Desert Theater Festival

Sharjah, December 13 / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, witnessed this Friday evening, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, the launch of the activities of the eighth session of the Desert Theater Festival, which continues Until December 17, in the Cave area in Sharjah.
His Highness was received by Sheikh Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi, Head of the Office of His Highness the Ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Head of the Department of Statistics and Community Development, Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Suburbs Affairs Department, and a number of senior officials and artists.
Immediately upon the arrival of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah to the festival site, which represents an open theatrical space that celebrates, through performances, the Arab desert environments and highlights their customs, traditions, and authentic and creative legacies through the aesthetics of theatrical art and performance, His Highness watched the theatrical work “The Robe Stained with Blood,” which he wrote, and which was embodied by three Chapters on the biography of the Arab poet Bishr bin Awanah, highlighting his courage, pride, passion, and strength. His statement and the eloquence of his tongue, based on the dramatic situation behind his request to marry his cousin Fatima, as told about him in his poem entitled “If I witnessed a stomach that would be hidden.”
This theatrical masterpiece embodies the courage and valor of the Arab person, his sincerity and dedication to what he loves, his soul yearning for victory and victory, and the flow and sincerity of his feelings that do not know the impossible, and are not satisfied with anything other than victory as an alternative. Since poetry is the collection of the Arabs, he preserved for us in his verses many Stories of heroism and pride, and the nature of life in urban areas and the desert, just as the sky preserves its stars.
Among these stories, the events of which have been preserved through immortal poetic poems, is the story of the poet Bishr bin Awanah, who depicted in his poem his courage, chivalry, and dedication to marrying his beloved, his cousin Fatima bint Amr.
The show, presented by the Sharjah National Theater troupe, directed by Mohammed Al Ameri, and with the participation of a group of local and Arab actors, dozens of performers, horsemen, and lighting and sound technicians, included performances, narration, poetry recitation, showmanship, and the participation of horses, camels, and Arab arts as an embodiment of the authentic Arab cultural heritage.
The festival activities will continue until December 17, when the second day will be the date of the Tunisian play “Qasr Al-Thara” presented by the Art of the Two Banks troupe, and on the third day the Kingdom of Jordan will participate in a play entitled “Al-Deira” by the Raf Performing Arts Ensemble, and under the title “Al-Zeina” comes the Egyptian show that presents On the fourth day of the festival, the Studio 77 band will perform. On the last day, the Mauritanian show “Al-Hakim” will be presented by the Ihya Arts Ensemble. The presentation of each theatrical performance is followed by a critical discussion that analyzes its content and discusses its visions and style.
The cultural program accompanying the festival includes intellectual engagement on December 14 and 15, and this session comes under the title “Desert Theater… Experience and Awareness,” with the aim of shedding light on the impact that the festival’s experience has had on the Arab theatrical scene, from both a practical and theoretical standpoint.
