Cars overturned and trees fell.. California hurricane causes widespread devastation
A tornado tore through northern California on Saturday, overturning cars, downing trees and destroying power lines, the US National Weather Service and local media reported.
Santa Cruz County, located south of San Francisco, was one of the most prominent affected areas, as pictures spread on social media showing overturned cars and large amounts of water.

Flood warning
The National Weather Service issued a storm warning for the area, with winds expected to reach 40 knots per hour, or about 75 kilometers per hour, on Sunday, and residents were warned to stay away from beaches in the area.
The flood warning remains in effect until 1:45 a.m. Sunday local time (0945 GMT), according to the meteorological service.


Thousands of people were affected by the power outage, and the winter storm caused widespread power outages in California.
In the city of San Francisco alone, up to 13,000 homes were affected by power outages, and out of the state’s total, more than 170,000 customers were affected by power outages.
