Two women head Badminton and Squash… and an elected council for Badminton after an absence since 2017.

The curtain came down on the elections for the 29 Olympic sports federations, which were held in order to choose new boards of directors, for the electoral cycle that continues until 2028.

The elections resulted in changes that did not live up to expectations, and also witnessed the absence of influence. Dr. Hassan Mustafa, President of the International Handball Federation, and Al-Ahly’s leadership of the General Assemblies, after the matter became decided by each federation controlling the members of its General Assembly, either by reducing its number, Or by dramatically increasing it through fake clubs.

The accommodations and willingness to compete for the seat of the presidency of the Egyptian Olympic Committee, whose elections will be held next April, were the master of the situation, and despite the change of some names, their presence by virtue of their international positions keeps them members within their federations, and in In some federations, the president stepped down so that the old council remained entirely, meaning that the ideology remains as it is without renewal or change.

The federation elections also witnessed unlimited disappointment for the champions of those sports. People with big names and international and Olympic achievements, who ran for the presidency of their federations. For example, but not limited to, Olympic judo champion Hisham Mesbah, the bronze medalist in the Beijing Olympics, did not receive any votes in the elections for his federation, and the former squash national team star, Omar El-Burlesi, did not receive anything but… Only two votes, while rowing star Amr Tamraz, director of the Continental Development Project of the International Canoe Federation, received only 4 votes in the elections. The game.

Nevertheless, the federation elections witnessed some positives with the presence of two women at the head of two Olympic federations for the first time, namely MP Dr. Hadia Hosni, the former champion and president of the Badminton Federation, and Amna Trabelsi, president of the Squash Federation, which joined the Olympic federations. To participate in the game in the Los Angeles Olympics.

The elections also witnessed the presence of 5 young people in the presidency of their federations: Hadia, Amna, and Muhammad. Mutee in the Judo Federation, Ahmed Habash in the Sailing Federation, and Omar Hisham Talaat in the Golf Federation.

Among the positives is also holding the first elections for the Handball Federation since 2017, as the federation has been managed over the past years through temporary committees that appoint By the International Federation of the Game, an election that witnessed the victory of Khaled Fathi’s list, at the expense of the list supported by Dr. Hassan Mustafa.

11 of the federation’s presidents were retained. In their positions, they are: Engineer Yasser Idris in the Swimming Federation, Engineer Sherif Al-Erian in the modern pentathlon, Muhammad Abdel-Maqsoud in weightlifting, Hazem Hosni in shooting, Yasser Qamar in volleyball, Ihab Amin in gymnastics, Major General Ahmed Nasser in the triathlon, and Counselor Muhammad Mustafa in the Taekwondo, Ismail Al-Shafi’i in tennis, Hossam Sahib in rugby, and Ismail Shaker in equestrian, where He was chairman of the interim committee that ran the union for the past few months. While some federations witnessed the presence of new names in the presidency of the federations, they are: “Khaled Fathi in handball, Amr Moselhi in basketball, Major General Ashraf Helmy in table tennis, Hadia Hosni in badminton, Amna Trabelsi in squash, and Mohamed Motie in judo.” Brigadier General Saeed Salah in wrestling, Major General Magdy El Lozy in boxing, Ashraf Farhat in the hockey federation, and Omar Hisham. Talat in golf, Tariq Al-Husseini in weapons, Ayman Ali in bicycles, Brigadier General Hani Hussein in bow and arrow, and Ahmed Habash and Sherif El-Gamaty in sailing. As for the Athletics, Canoe, and Kayaking Federations, the change occurred only in the president, as Saif Shaheen did not run for athletics, and his previous council succeeded in full, and his deputy, Hatem Fouda, became president of the federation. In canoe, Major General Ayman Shweta did not run, and most of his council members succeeded under the presidency. Major General Ahmed Kamel, a former member of the Council, while Engineer Hani Abu Rida’s list won in the Football Association.

It is expected that the competition will witness The presidency of the Olympic Committee, a fierce struggle between the fronts of Yasser Idris and Sherif El-Erian, and perhaps Major General Magdy El-Lozy, at a time when many within the sports community are seeking to reach an agreement between El-Lozy and El-Erian to be a united front against Idris.
