The Minister of Electricity discusses in the Saudi capital electricity storage projects with battery systems

Within the framework of the state’s strategy for sustainable development and the work program of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy to diversify energy sources and increase the contribution of renewable energies to the energy mix, and introduce electricity storage projects using battery technology to enhance grid stability, meet the growing demand for energy, and achieve flexibility for the unified network, and in light of improving the quality of operation. Improving performance rates, reducing technical losses, reducing fuel consumption, improving the quality of the electrical supply, maintaining the stability and sustainability of the electrical current, ensuring the transition to a smart grid, monitoring consumption and its nature, following up on changes in loads, and providing information to the national grid operator. For electricity to achieve general efficiency of operation, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, and Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Saudi Minister of Energy, met in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, to discuss ways to support and enhance cooperation and partnership in the fields of energy, open new horizons in the fields of electricity storage and renewable energies, and find out the latest developments in the implementation of the electrical interconnection project between… The two countries.

The meeting discussed aspects of cooperation between Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the field of electricity and benefiting from Saudi expertise in electricity storage projects using independent battery technology. It achieved stability in the electrical network and its role in meeting the increasing demand for electricity and achieving flexibility in the electrical system within the Kingdom. Smart meters, their technical systems, means of communication, and digital transformation were discussed on the path to transforming the network from a typical network into a smart network capable of accommodating the enormous capabilities of electricity. Renewable energies, as well as the electrical interconnection project between the two countries’ electricity networks with the aim of joint energy exchange within the framework of taking advantage of the difference in peak times and increasing loads in the two countries, to maximize returns, properly manage and use the electrical surplus, and increase the stability of the electrical network in Egypt. And Saudi Arabia.

The meeting included discussions on opening new horizons and increasing private investments in new and renewable energy projects and joint efforts to invest in solar and wind energy, within the framework of the two countries’ policy and action plans targeting Achieving sustainable development goals, and supporting cooperation in the field of transfer and exchange of technical expertise and modern technologies in the fields of electricity generation, transmission and distribution.

In this context, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat undertook a field tour during which he inspected Many Independent storage battery projects, and listened to a detailed explanation about the current and future storage capabilities and their role in stabilizing the network and electrical supply and ensuring the continuity of electrical current in light of the trend towards relying on renewable energies. There was agreement on cooperation and ways to support and facilitate the implementation of the joint trend to establish energy projects and enhance the electrical infrastructure.

Dr. Mahmoud Esmat praised the cooperation between the two countries and the efforts made to enhance ways of partnership in the fields of electricity and renewable energy, which is a model for achieving common benefits and maximizing returns. Of the available natural resources, especially in the fields of solar energy and wind energy.

He pointed to the Kingdom’s plans to implement electricity storage projects with capacities of up to 26 gigawatts and 48 gigawatts by 2030, as well as the strategic partnership. between Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to achieve energy security and move towards relying on new and renewable energies.

The minister explained that there are great efforts by all parties to complete The Egyptian-Saudi electrical interconnection project and the start of operation and connection to the unified network at the beginning of next summer. In order to achieve this, there is a working team that has been formed and continues its work to overcome all obstacles to ensure adherence to the timetable for completing the project work. The operation of this giant project will open the way for many other projects during the phase. Coming within the framework of the policy of expanding clean energy projects, reducing carbon emissions, and limiting the use of fossil fuels.
